How do hydroa aestivale and hydroa vacciniforme differ? These rare, vesiculopapular photoeruptions of unknown etiology occur in childhood. Lesions occur primarily on the face, especially the ears, nose, and cheeks, and on the chest and dorsal hands. Hydroa aestivale occurs more commonly in females and is not associated with scarring. Hydroa vacciniforme is more common in males and heals with shallow, vacciniform scars. There may be an association with Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) in hydroa vacciniforme. Some consider both of these diseases variants of PMLE. |
