What is hidradenitis suppurativa? Hidradenitis is a chronic, suppurative, recurring inflammatory disease that affects apocrine gland–bearing sites. The axilla and groin are most frequently involved, but the disease is also seen on the perineum, buttocks, neck, and scalp (Fig. 21-6). It is more common in females and begins after puberty. It is characterized by inflammatory nodules, abscess formation, scarring, and sinus tract formation. |
