Emollient formulations

In order to ensure the maximum impact of emollients, it has become common practice to use them at every stage of the skin-care process. This means that there are emollient cleansers, emollient bath additives and topical emollients which are left on the skin (Holden et al., 2002). These three elements are often collectively referred to as ‘total emollient therapy’. This section will give an overview of the available emollient formulations.
