What cutaneous lesions are seen with Hansen’s disease? Hansen’s disease, or leprosy, is a chronic infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium leprae. M. leprae infects the skin and peripheral nerves and in some patients may produce anesthetic, hypopigmented patches, plaques, or nodules. Patients with indeterminate and tuberculoid leprosy have one or few lesions, whereas patients with lepromatous leprosy have many lesions. Lesions may repigment following antibiotic cure. |
