What is a positive “dimple” sign?

Dermatofibromas characteristically demonstrate a positive “dimple” sign, which is a dimpling of the skin produced when lateral pressure is applied to the dermatofibroma between the thumb and forefinger. This is also called the Fitzpatrick sign, in honor of Dr. Thomas Fitzpatrick (Fig. 43-7).
