What is a Reed-Sternberg cell? It is a large cell with two mirror-image nuclei with large distinct nucleoli, often with surrounding halos (owl’s eye cells). It is considered to be the malignant cell of Hodgkin’s disease, and its presence confirms the histologic diagnosis. The origin of the cell is debated, with marker studies having shown both T- and B-cell immunoenzymatic staining. |
