Are there any strategies or treatments that reduce the dry skin and lips associated with retinoid therapy?Yes. The most common adjunctive treatment is lip balm for the lips and moisturizers for the skin. Preliminary reports suggested that taking 800 IU of vitamin E (α-tocopherol) was effective in reducing the cheilitis and, to a lesser extent, the dry skin. A subsequent investigator-blinded, randomized study could not demonstrate any benefit of vitamin E in ameliorating the side effects of isotretinoin.
