Why are prompt recognition and treatment of NLE important?

Frequently, NLE eruptions are misdiagnosed as infectious in origin. This subjects the infant to the unnecessary risks of systemic antibiotics, while the presence of heart block may be missed, and appropriate systemic treatment (steroids) for the other NLE problems is delayed.
