(Figure 4.25A) - Infection: #1 cause of tinea capitis (ectothrix) worldwide, often transmitted from cats/dogs
- Colony: fluffy white → reverse deep yellow
- Hyphae: racquet hyphae, nodular bodies, chlamydospores
- Conidia: spindle-shaped with rough, thick walls and pointed ends (>6 cells)
- Misc: (+) polished rice growth, (+) hair perforation
