(Figure 4.26B) - Infection: most common dermatophyte; tinea pedis, tinea corporis, onychomycosis, Majocchi’s granuloma
- Colony: fluffy white → reverse red (no diffusion)
- Hyphae: septate hyphae
- Conidia: teardrop-shaped microconidia resembling “birds on a wire,” pencil-shaped macroconidia rare
- Misc: (−) hair perforation, (+) pigmentation on cornmeal agar, (−) urease
