What nondermatophyte mold can cause mycotic infections that mimic moccasin-type tinea pedis? Scytalidium dimidiatum has been isolated from cases of moccasin-type pedis that are resistant to standard therapy. The organism will not grow on selective dermatophyte media, such as Mycosel, Mycobiotic, or DTM, but it does grow readily on Sabouraud’s agar. Hay RJ, Moore MK: Mycology.
