How do you treat a flea infestation? Treatment of the patient is symptomatic. The pet should be treated with insecticidal powders, shampoos, and dips. For each adult flea found on the animal, there are perhaps hundreds of adults, eggs, larvae, and pupae in the bedding material of the pet. Apply strict environmental controls: Vacuum the pet’s sleeping areas throughout, wash or destroy the bedding, and apply an insecticide containing a residual pyrethroid and a growth regulator hormone to the area. |
