Are there any medical problems associated with
henna?

Yes, but they are rare. Some people develop irritant contact dermatitis using henna. Henna may also cause hemolysis in G6PD-deficient individuals after percutaneous absorption. Also, some henna preparations contain para-phenylenediamine additives that can induce cutaneous and pulmonary allergic reactions (Fig. 63-3).
