What is an intense pulse light machine? Intense pulse light (IPL) is a system that uses a flashlamp to generate a high-energy pulse of noncoherent light. The spectrum usually runs from about 550 nm up to 1200 nm. This light, having a wide spectrum, is then subjected to “cutoff” blocking filters to give specific starting wavelengths to each handpiece.
