Is the sign of Leser-Trélat (eruptive seborrheic keratoses) associated with internal malignancy? This association remains controversial. Seborrheic keratoses are common in older patients, and so is cancer. There have been many skin lesions and skin diseases reported to be associated with internal malignancy, but these associations are difficult to prove and probably are spurious. Examples include dermatitis herpetiformis, bullous pemphigoid, pemphigus vulgaris (excluding paraneoplastic pemphigus), persistent erythemas (excluding erythema gyratum repens), cutaneous vasculitis, pruritus, scleroderma, and ichthyosis.
