Describe the clinical features of true local anesthetic allergy. How is this best treated? Patients may present with urticaria, angioedema, anaphylactoid reactions, or even anaphylaxis. Treatment is directed accordingly, per ACLS protocols, using subcutaneous epinephrine (0.3 mL of a 1:1000 solution), intravenous antihistamines, intravenous dexamethasone (4 to 12 mg), and oxygen. |
