Which suture needles are best suited to skin surgery? A three-eighths (or half-circle) needle with a reverse cutting point is the preferred and most commonly used needle in cutaneous surgery. The point of the needle is triangular on cross section, with the apex of the triangle on the outside/ convex side of the needle and the base of the needle on the inside/concave side. This decreases the tendency for the suture to cut inward toward the wound, thereby minimizing trauma. |
