The insertion of the underlying musculature into the skin results in a somewhat predictable pattern of skin creases, called RSTLs. Typically, these lines run perpendicular to the long axis of the underlying musculature (Fig. 51-2). Surgical incisions placed within or parallel to these lines will create the most favorable scar. |
